When learning a language. We often get stuck on words we forget.
言語を学んでいると、よく言葉が出てこないことがあります
We have all had that moment when we are in a rhythm of talking.
テンポよく話しているときに言葉が出てこない経験があると思います
We get excited. We are flowing like water.
ワクワクして、流れに身を任せて
All the hard work is paying off.
一生懸命頑張った事が報われています
Then Suddenly boom !
でも突然
We forget a word.
単語が出てこない
And we get frustrated and angry at our selves.
そしてそんな自分に苛立ちます
We have studied “that word” many times and then we suddenly forget it.
何度も”あの単語”をずっと勉強してるのに
突然忘れます
We feel stupid and discouraged.
自分はダメだと落胆します
We feel we aren’t good enough. We get in to the negative zone.
自分は全然出来ないと思い、ネガティブゾーンに入ります
This is a very valuable moment.
これはとても貴重な瞬間です
This is the moment that can break your momentum with learning.
この時があなたの学習方法を新しくする瞬間です
This is the moment that can “make you” or “break you”.
この時が”自分を作る” もしくは”自分を壊す”瞬間です
What do we do now ?
今何をするのか？
We can get angry with ourselves.
自分自身に腹を立て
We can call ourselves stupid and curse at ourselves.
自分はバカだと呼び、自分に酷い言葉を吐きます
Then scream “my English sucks! ” or We can get upset and quit learning English.
それから”私の英語は最悪！” と叫んだり
不満をあらわにして英語を勉強するのをやめます
And start watching movies with subtitles again.
そしてまた字幕で映画を見始めます
This negativity will break you.
この悲観的行動はあなたをダメにします
Saying out loud “sorry, my English sucks” is tricking your mind in to believing it. “
“全然英語が出来なくてごめんなさい” と、声を大にして言うと、あなたの心はそれを信じてしまいます

If you think it. Then it will be true. So what should you do? What should you say ?

When you forget another word. Use another word instead.
言葉を忘れた時は、代わりに他の言葉を使いましょう
Let’s use an easy Example like “pencil”.
では、簡単な例えです “えんぴつ”
I want you take a piece of paper and pen.
ペンと紙を1枚用意してください
And write down 10 words or phrases to describe a pencil.
鉛筆を描写する言葉、フレーズを10個書いてください
Go ahead. I’ll wait. … okay what did you get ?
さぁ、どうぞ、私は待ちます。では、何を書きましたか？
My students usually can come up with 3 or 4.
私の生徒さんはいつも3つか4つ書き出します
How many did you get?

I would write

2. Has lead inside
中に芯がある
3. Some are mechanical
機械的な物もある
4. Comes in many different colors

8. Sometimes had an eraser
たまに消しゴムが付いている

描く為のもの

12. Can be used in a John wick movie to stab people.
ジョンウィックの映画で人を刺すものとして使われている
I came up with many ways to describe a pencil.
私はたくさんの表現を使って鉛筆を描写しました
Now what’s the point in that ?
その目的はなんだと思いますか？

Use what you know to describe the word you don’t know.
それは、知らない単語を描写するには
知っている単語を使うという事です
Example.
例えば
A: So yesterday I was looking for my…. oh whats that word ?! It’s on the tip of my tongue.
それで昨日さ、アレを探してたんだけど、、、
なんて言うんだっけ？あれ、、もう少しで思い出せるんだけど
B: what?
なに？
A: you know. That small then we used to write !
ほら、書く時に使うもの！
B: a pen?
ペン？
A: no no it has an eraser on top and John wick killed those guys with it in the movie.
違う違う。上に消しゴムが付いてて、ジョン・ウィックが映画の中でそれを使って男の人を刺してたやつ
B: “oh, a fucking pencil”
あー！！ 鉛筆！！
A: “a fucking pencil”
鉛筆だ
