Someone asked me, “Michael, why are you always angry in your videos and when you write.”
ある時誰かに”マイケル、なんで君はいつもビデオの中や書く時に怒ってるの?”と聞かれました

I am not angry. I am just American.
私は怒ってなどいません
私はただアメリカ人なだけです

I want to explain about western culture especially being a New Yorker.
私はアメリカの文化について、特にニューヨーカーでいる事について説明したいです

Americans value directness.
アメリカ人は率直性を重視します

We don’t like indirect-ness.
私達は遠回しなことが嫌いです

We believe that people who aren’t straight forward can’t be trusted.
私達は率直でない人は信頼できないと信じています

Americans are competitive.
アメリカ人は競争が好きです

We challenge each other even in friendly battles.
私達はたとえ親善試合などでも
お互い挑戦します

It can be at work or in our personal lives.
それが職場でも私生活でも構いません
We are competitive by nature. And dislike to lose.
私たちは本質的に競争力があります
そして失うことを嫌います

Americans challenge the establishment.
アメリカ人は確立しようと挑みます

We don’t like to be told what to do.
私達は何をすべきか言われるのが好きではありません

Even when it’s for our own good.

We like make our own decisions.

Americans are very informal.
アメリカ人はとても形式にこだわりません

We treat people the same.

It doesn’t matter the age or social standing.
年齢や社会的地位は関係ありません
We don’t have a caste system.
カースト制度はありません

Americans are independent and individualistic.
アメリカ人は独立していて個人主義です

Freedom of all is important.
すべての自由が重要

We like the freedom to do things even though we don’t use them all the time.
私達はいつもではありませんが
物事を自由に行うことが好きです

American are individuals.
アメリカ人は個人主義です

Being Individual is important.
個人主義でいることは大切です

We don’t like to follow others.
私達は他人の真似をするのが好きではありません

We enjoy creating trends. Not following them.
他人に従わず流行りを作るのを楽しみます
Americans are questioners.
アメリカ人はたくさん質問します

We ask “why” about everything.
私達は全ての事について”なぜ”
と尋ねます

We question everyone and everything.
私達は全ての人や物に質問します

We like to deep dive into thoughts and things people say.
私たちは人々が言う物事を深く掘り下げることがすきです

Americans don’t like to hear “No” or “you can’t”
アメリカ人は”いいえ” や”あなたは出来ないと聞くのが好きではありません

We don’t like to be told that we can’t do something.
私達は私達には出来ないと言われるのが好きではありません

When we are told “no” or “can’t” we want to know why we are told no.
“いいえ”や”出来ない”と言われとき
私達は何故”no”と言われたのか知りたいのです

And we also like to disprove the person who said it.
そしてnoと言った人の誤りを直すのも好きです

Americans dislike silence.
アメリカ人は沈黙が嫌いです

We think quiet is awkward.
私達は沈黙は気まづいと思っています

We tend to talk about anything and everything because we don’t enjoy the buzzing of silence.
私達は静寂を楽しまないため、何でもすべてについて話す傾向があります
We need the sound of music or the television at home.
私達は家で音楽やテレビの音が必要です
Americans value punctuality.
アメリカ人は時間厳守を大切にしています

We are usually five to 10 minutes early to work or work related functions.

But being fashionably late is also a thing.

Americans values smells of things
We like artificial smells.

Cologne and perfumes.

Natural odors bother us.

If you don’t wear deodorant or artificial enhancers we tend to point that out.

We will say “hey you okay, you smell funny.”
私達は”あなた大丈夫?なんか変な匂いするよ” と言うでしょう

American value the truth.
アメリカ人は真実を大切にする

We rather be told the truth than, sugar coat lies.

If you can’t tell me something about myself even if it’s true, but it might hurt.

I don’t want to be friends with you

American’s best friends say the most hurtful but truthful things.
アメリカ人の親友は、最も傷つくが真実なことを言います

Americans don’t like two faced people.
アメリカ人は裏表のある人は嫌いです

Two faced people are considered fake and untrustworthy.
裏表のある人は偽物で信頼できないと考えられています
